How we choose and arrange these
Every piece here is in the public domain, taken from a free edition whose license we record on its page. We check the notes against that edition before arranging anything.
Each page offers a few versions, and each one is labeled with the request a teacher typed into PlayableNotes, such as “Make the left hand easier” or “Put it in C major”. That way you can see exactly what changed and why.
Every version keeps the tune. Before a version goes up, it is checked bar by bar against the source: the melody and harmony are kept, and the hand positions, stretches and rhythms suit the level it claims. Its page lists what was changed.
Not here, or not quite right? Just ask.
Upload a photo or PDF of printed piano music, or open one of these, and ask PlayableNotes in words for the version your student needs: simpler, another key, shorter, bigger notes.
Free account with 50 credits for reading. Changes, playback and printing are free.
Questions
Which Christmas songs are easiest on piano?
Songs with a narrow melody and a steady rhythm are the easiest to start with. Begin with the easiest version on a song’s page and add the left hand when the tune is secure.
Is this sheet music really free?
Yes. Every version on these pages is free to play, print and download as PDF or MIDI, with no account. The pieces are in the public domain and the arrangements are ours to share.
What if none of the versions fits my student?
Open the closest one in PlayableNotes and ask for the change you need: simpler, another key, shorter, bigger notes. A free account comes with 50 credits for reading your own sheet music, and changing a score is free.
Can I play the music before I print it?
Yes. Each page plays every version with a sampled piano and lights up the notes as they sound. Slow it down, play one hand, or click a bar to loop it.
