What went into the Minuet example
Produced 13 October 2026. A PlayableNotes demonstration with proposed teaching constraints, not a customer testimonial or a student-performance study.
The source and reading
Christian Petzold’s Minuet in G, BWV Anh.114, using Mutopia edition #75, engraved by Allen Garvin from Bach-Gesellschaft and designated public domain by its provider. Inspect the actual input PDF. The historical edition credits Bach and attributes the work to Petzold.
The complete one-page PDF was uploaded into PlayableNotes and read as six lines for six existing credits. All 32 measures were compared against the source, including accidentals, grace note, ornaments, repeats and overlapping voices. No note corrections were needed for this example; the displayed composer metadata was shortened to Christian Petzold. This is not an accuracy benchmark.
The musical changes
- The G adaptation came from the product’s Advanced editor. Every right-hand voice, including the small closing chord, remains unchanged.
- Review found an unnecessary new jump into bar 23. The first left-hand D3 was restored to the original D4 in the saved product score, allowing C-sharp to resolve upward by a semitone.
- The left hand has no eighth notes. Its largest simultaneous interval is a fourth (five semitones). It has 49 attack moments per written 32 bars, compared with 73 in the source. Some single-note jumps and quarter-note movement remain; this is not a blanket beginner arrangement.
- Two automatic transposition attempts in the web editor returned “The change could not be made.” The C version was then transposed exactly seven semitones down using a checked score edit through the PlayableNotes integration. It was saved and exported in the real product, with all rhythms and voices preserved.
- The C version has no key-signature sharps but still has chromatic F-sharps, ornaments and the original rhythmic demands.
Exports and sound
All nine PDF/MusicXML/MIDI files were downloaded from the actual saved scores in the PlayableNotes studio. Independent checks compared every MusicXML event with the final notation and MIDI notes with product playback. The complete MIDI performance includes both repeats: 64 performed measures, approximately 137.14 seconds at 84 quarter notes per minute. The PDFs were visually inspected for notation and page breaks.
The MP3s and video audio are offline renderings of those actual exported MIDI files using the product’s sampled-piano mapping and one common +14 dB gain across versions. They are not live recordings of the browser or of a student. Piano samples: Salamander Grand Piano by Alexander Holm, CC BY 3.0; samples are pitch-shifted, enveloped and mixed to render the exported notes. No unrelated music performance was substituted.
The edited walkthrough
The screenshots show real product states. Crops remove unused space and account navigation; captions and notation excerpts are editorial additions. Waiting and unsuccessful attempts are omitted from the short walkthrough. The full production history is described above. Captions and a transcript are provided.
